The Cerec system uses computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) technology. Following digital scanning of the prepared tooth/teeth, the crown, inlay/onlay is milled from ceramic blocks custom-made specifically to your prepared tooth. The benefit of this technology is that you sit and wait whilst your crown is being fabricated, hence minimising inconvenience to you. This means no messy impressions and no temporary crown whilst crown is being fabricated at a laboratory.
Prior to the development of Cerec, the original procedure for creating and placing dental crowns was a long appointment and required multiple subsequent appointments from preparation of the tooth, to cementation of the crown.
The materials used for Cerec are exactly that of the composition of natural teeth. This helps foster the natural functionality of the tooth in every aspect. Cerec expands and contracts just like your teeth when you consume hot or cold food or drinks. The materials are carefully used to help preserve the healthy structure as much as possible, as well as, strengthening the tooth, thus preventing further damage.
This new and innovative step approach of Cerec one-visit crowns, creates a whole new experience for the patient. With all the up to date equipment, the team of experts at Warnervale Dental are able to take 3D digital impressions of the tooth to be replaced and create it, all while the patient waits. Then, the new crown is placed, and the process completed. So, instead of repeated visits to the practice, you can be ready and out the door in only one visit.
